U2 - 'Ordinary Love' artwork by Oliver Jeffers

It's probably not since Michael Cina's work for Matthew Dear that a sleeve with a painted portrait has been featured here. And this one, by Ireland's Oliver Jeffers, already had me overcoming my own indifference to U2 when it was released last week as a limited 10" vinyl pressing for Record Store Day. A song featured in the film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, it suddenly has more resonance given the passing of its iconic subject.

Florence and the Machine - 'Only If For A Night' Secret 7" designs

In conjunction with Record Store Day and Teenage Cancer Trust, the Secret 7" project will consist of records that are released anonymously.

Sleeve designs for the likes of The Cure, Bombay Bicycle Club, CSS and DJ Shadow have been submitted and voting is open for the next three days to determine which artwork is put into production.

Florence and the Machine contributed the track 'Only If For A Night' and, perhaps reflecting Florence Welch's popularity, the amount of entries has been overwhelming. Although many of those that have been enthusiastic to take part seem to have overlooked the 'secret' aspect: with plenty including a picture of the artist and, in some cases, the band's name and track title. However there are still a fair number that don't feature some flame-haired damsel. Just two of those are found below while there are more to be found over at Secret 7".

Releases by Jamie Woon

Coming through Polydor, the artwork from Burial-produced Brit School alumni Jamie Woon has taken influence from the title of, his album, Mirrorwriting. The latest in this type-oriented set comes as part of Record Store Day when Woon's 'Lady Luck' is made available as a limited edition picture disc.

It's out April 16th - alongside a whole raft of exclusives that include a remastered blue vinyl issue of the Art of Noise's influential 'Into Battle With...EP', a Bibio and Clark split single that prompts the first use of the classic purple Warp sleeve in four years, a new Mark Farrow-designed Deconstruction offering and a delicious Toddla T feat. Roisin Murphy 'Cherry Picking' 12".
